Why?

October 6th, 2008

In the two weeks of being back at uni I have watched some rather Baaddd rom-coms. But thats because typically I don’t like films like that. Now my ma will be like el why are you wasting your time watching stuff like that and the only thing I can say is that they made me.

The first night I moved in we watched ‘The Devil Wears Prada’. I could not believe how superficial and pointless and predictable it was I actually laughed out loud a couple of times at bits that weren’t supposed to be funny and everyone turned to look at me. But I didn’t care, my life was in no way shape or form greatly improved after seeing it I tell you.

Another classic that I saw was ‘Sex and the City’!! Now most people will love it mainly because they have spent 10 years of their lives gluing their eyes to the tv series and know and love the characters. I have never even got through watching one episode of that programme on tv, but from seeing this film I have found that these so called independent and fashion conscious women have very weird ideas about love and men. For one thing they have no sense of style and Carrie Bradshaw wears some awful outfits- plus throughout the whole thing was shameless advertising and brand plugging. Another thing is these 40 something women - who have nothing better to do than moan and shop in order to fill the empty void in their vacuous lives - are still searching for love, the message being that this is what you should be like and this is the way you should go about it and this is the way you should think about it. They are in no way independent women - yes maybe financially - but they never seem to do any work or live in the real world- but not emotionally and nor are they free in the true sense of the word, they are fixed on the idea that what they need to make their lives complete is a man. No wonder they are all unhappy and single and moany and dull.

It was not a good film.

However I did watch ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas’ and that was good, although slightly weird. But because of Jonny D’s acting and dialogue/script I might put it in my top 10.

Moving in

September 26th, 2008

I moved into my uni house on sunday and since then I’ve been pretty busy. I definately have the best room in the house on the fourth floor- its got a great view, is pretty largish and to top it off I sleep in a cupboard halfway up one wall! I know it seems strange but it is like the best thing ever. I went to ikea which isn’t far away and bought a double bed and stuff to go in the cupboard - it is that big!! Only thing is I have to stand on a footstool with a chair on top to get in otherwise I have to dive like superman to get in it.

Our house is a bit grannyish with bad carpets and wallpaper. At the moment I’m surrounded by a blue and pink pattern but this weekend I’m hoping to start painting, probably only plain white though because we’re not actually allowed to decorate. I bought a blue and white frenchy bedset from ikea and because I’ve got a white wicker laundry basket and an old blue, white patterned footstool and a dark blue sofa  so I was thinking of making a french theme in my room. I’m halfway there already because I’ve got quite a few things that match but it won’t be old ladyish but cool. I love decorating.

Oxford

September 18th, 2008

I went on a trip to Oxford on monday with my ma. It’s so different to other cities I’ve been to. Some of the buildings and architecture look like classic Rome what with all the pillars and statues and all. We are definately going to go again and explore the more unknown areas and alleys and maybe have a gander around some of the university bulidings which are all over the place. We visited the HUGE blackwells bookshop and purchased some scrumy classics and I bought some art postcards that I’m goin to put on my wall at uni when I move back in…

I took some photos on this trip, not very good ones but next time I go I will. Anyway walking up one of the side streets I saw on the wall what looked like a Bansky. I don’t know for sure whether it’s one of his and I haven’t heard of him doing it in Oxford but it looks similar to his other work. It was quite small so it was a good thing I spotted it. Anyway it could be…

This is where I should be studying - not old Bristol.

The Coen’s

September 16th, 2008

The Coen brothers are back with what looks like another immense film that I’m sure will be added to my favourite collection. In my opinion Joel and Ethan are the greatest filmakers that I know of- they cannot be surpassed. If you’ve never heard of them where the hell have you been? And if you’ve never seen any of their films, well my oh my its time to take a visit to your local movie rental convienience- and pronto!
Recently they have given us ‘No Country For Old Men’ with the good old Tommy Lee which proved quite a success. But the other films of theirs which I have seen and loved and which I urge to watch are; ‘The Big Lebowski’ for definate- often listed as one of the top films to see before you die it includes the late John Goodman, the classic Jeff Bridges and of course Steve Buscemi - ‘Fargo’; ‘Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?’; ‘The Man Who Wasn’t There’ etc. Of course they’ve made loads more and I haven’t been fortunate enough to see them all.

But this new one they’ve got out has been released over in America and is proving to be a box office hit- no doubt because Brad Pitt is in it. When I heard this I was like no way, not BRAD in a Coen brothers!!! It wouldn’t work because he’s not that great an actor and wouldn’t really fit in with it…but I saw the trailer and what with his hair and all it looks like he’s tried his best, maybe it will work out after all but he’s not really a screwball comedy type actor. I guess I’ll just have to see the film when its released over here…Anyway John Malcovich is in it which can be counted in its favour…its about a two gym employees who get their hands on a disc containing the memoirs of a CIA agent and then they try to sell it.

Out on 17th October in the UK…It’s called Burn after Reading…..

So here’s a trailer.

Some wallpapers what I have made for your eyes…

Hi I’m new to these parts!

September 13th, 2008

Ahoy there! Thought it would be a good idea to start up my own blog about all sorts of random stuff… don’t really know how it will pan out or if i’ll be any good at it but I’ll try! Things i’ll probably include would be my favourite music; clothes; films; food; random ideas and thoughts; interesting observations; philosophical musings, which may include opinions about religion, politics, the human condition and the everyday happenings of life. Along with peoples works I particularly admire consisting of -drawings, pictures, photographs, essays, ideas and poems I like - and maybe i’ll include some stuff I’ve made/drawn myself if your lucky! Anyway that about sums it up I think. Hope it turns out well……
